BEING A PRESS RELEASE ISSUED BY THE UNIVERSITY OF LAGOS STUDENTS’ UNION PRESIDENT, COMRADE MUHAMMED OLANIYAN ON THIS DAY 13TH OF JANUARY 2015 ON THE OCCASION OF THE ARMED FORCES REMEBERANCE DAY.

It is with utmost humility and profound pleasure that I welcome you all to the University of Lagos – highly reputed as the “University of First choice” and the “Nation’s Pride”. Indeed, for the exploits of the University, it merits the reputation.
We express our undiluted gratitude to the Vice Chancellor, Professor Rahman Ade Bello, for giving the students of the University of Lagos the opportunity to showcase adept leadership skills. This, he has done by the reinstatement of the University of Lagos Students’ Union last year, and the conduction of the last union elections that brought in this new set of executives whom I head.
We thank all students of the University of Lagos for their dogged strive for success, and continued support of the union. I must assert at this juncture that I feel most obliged to be your president.
Today, we launch a very innovative project. A project meant to appreciate the efforts of our soldiers. Today, we tell the world how much our gallant soldiers are selfless and efficient. Today, the University of Lagos Students’ Union launches the “Thank A Soldier” campaign.
As we all know, some of our soldiers, while fighting to defend the integrity and unity of Nigeria lose parts of their bodies, some legs, some hands, some spines, some even lose their lives. These heroes left the coziness of their rooms. They left the warmth derived from the embraces of their wives and kids, their families. They left the visible care-giving of their friends. They left all. They left all of it for Nigeria.
Unfortunately, these soldiers get little or nothing for their exploits. These gallant men on the field get no commendation, little reverence, mediocre compensation, from both the people they protect and the people that should protect their interests. But, even if the exploits of these heroes are demeaned, we acknowledge their efforts. We acknowledge the efforts of every single soldier. From one to all, we thank the soldiers.
We acknowledge the determination of these heroes in the deep of Sambisa, fighting faceless demons, with their armless arms. They struggle with their lives using guns without gun powders, against terrors who are fortified with a sophisticated arsenal. We acknowledge the plethora of soldiers who have been wasted by the cold hands of leadership ineptitudes and mismanagements. Those who stand the harshness of the heat, and the piercing stings of the cold, just to defend the integrity of Nigeria. We acknowledge the dedication, the selflessness, the determination. We love you soldiers. You are our heroes.
It is in a way of appreciating these soldiers that the University of Lagos Students’ Union launches the “Thank A Soldier” campaign. The purport is to revere our heroes, lost and living. As one that underwent some military training as a recruit, I send my share of commendation to you heroes. Ifeel it is expedient that we the students of the University of Lagos show sincere appreciation to our heroes, amidst the contemporary travails they are faced with.
The event would last from tomorrow to Friday. A host of activities mapped out to appreciate our soldiers – to thank a soldier. From hospitals, to endurance trek, to outpour of “thanks” on twitter, we want to ensure that our soldiers feel loved. Even if the economy is bad. Even if the leaders feel less concerned. Even if the society is insouciant. We will thank a soldier.
I enjoin everyone that will take part in the Friday twitter campaign to use the hashtag #UnilagThanksASoldier. Together we collaborate to appreciate our soldiers. God bless our soldiers. God bless the Nigerian army. God bless the Armed Forces. God bless ULSU. God bless University of Lagos. God bless Nigeria.

ARTICLES10 Ways To Win An Argument whether you are Right or Wrong

There is something about arguing, that just feels good anytime we do it, especially when we do it right.

Like when you walk into a room filled with young men yelling at the top of their voices, Arguing on Football to the extent you can almost see testosterone oozing out of their pores.

Arguments! Oh sweet chocolaty arguments, For me I had always perceived that most people who engage in them do so for mere “Ego flexing”. Personally, am not much of an arguing person partly owing to the fact that I don’t know how to argue. But hey! Don’t judge me. I am human too. I can’t be an expert in everything I do, but I can learn.

Recently I had a lot of free time to do some research on how to argue effectively. I learnt how to construct and articulate my sentences properly and prioritize my point in the order of how I dish them out, I also learnt how to ask mental disarming questions during arguments.

“Aggrrr! I do this all the time” I’m such a Nerd!!! Let me skip the technical aspect of it and get straight to the point where I share with you my learnt secrets of how to argue and do serious damage to your opponent(s). “errr’ By that I mean how to win arguments.

1] Don’t take arguments like just a mere exchange of words; take it as a verbal warfare so you need to be tactical about it… because the reward of being victorious in arguments is pride, integrity and respect.

2] Expand your opponent’s explanations to its limit, by asking more questions and making him talk more because it is easier to attack a larger body of literature than a narrow one. Engage your opponents to his natural limits and most likely he’ll self destruct or create a chink in his armor.

3] Hide your conclusion from your opponent until the end; mingle your premises here and there in your arguments, Get your opponent to agree to them in no definite order.

By this circuitous route you conceal your goal until you have reached all the admissions necessary to reach your goal.

4] Make your opponent angry. An angry person is less capable of using judgment or perceiving where his or her advantages lies.

5] If your opponent answers all your questions negatively and refuses to grant you any points, ask him or her to concede the opposite of your premises. This may confuse the opponent as to which point you actually seek him to concede.

6] Try to bluff your opponent.
If he or she has answered several of your questions without the answers turning out in favour of your conclusion, advance your conclusion triumphantly, even if it does not follow.

If your opponent is shy or stupid, and you yourself possess a great deal of impudence and a good voice, the technique may succeed.

7] Also bluff your opponent by threatening to Google evidences to support your argument by a credible website or authority or play a YouTube video or whatever.

8] If you have argued with him before and won or know an argument your opponent lost, bring it up to frustrate him.

9] If your opponent is making a generalization, find an instance to the contrary. Only one valid contradiction is needed to overthrow your opponent’s proposition.

Example: “All ruminants are horned,” is a generalization that may be upset by the single instance of the camel.

10] If you find that you are being beaten, you can create a diversion. You can suddenly begin to talk of something else, as though it had a bearing on the matter in dispute. A stalemate is better than a loss.

9 Character Trait that makes Unilag Diploma Girls Irresistible

1.Unilag (University of Lagos) Diploma Girls are Young, Hot and Fresh. Who doesn’t like young, Hot and fresh. Isn’t that how we love our meals? [Laughs]

2.They Don’t know what they want; fresh, young, naive, childish and just out of secondary school. They are bound to make a lot of mistakes as a result of trying to fit in. Most of Diploma girls are away from home for the first time in their lives. Still young, Hot blooded and still a hormone filled teen. A Diploma girl is bound to fall for traps set to lure them into the beds of boys.

3.Unilag Diploma Girls are stylish; This is Self Explanatory. Guys have always been attracted to what they see. Hey! Don’t blame us, We were wired that way. Guys are attracted to girls with a good sense of style. Errrr’ bros do u need to google that? Seriously?!

5.Unilag Diploma Girls Are Presumed Rich; This is my take on this; If her father can pay over 400,000 for her tuition, Over 200,000 for Her Accommodation and still give her money for cloths, feeding etc… How long does it take for you to figure out that She ain’t no “broke ass”. “Cmon” you do not need a statement of her Dads bank account to realize that. (Not always true though) that’s why I used the word “Presumed” earlier.

6.You Always Get To Meet Her Hot friends; Everybody hates stress, and that applies to guys too… We hate the hunt but we love the kill. Believe me if we had our way we would rather stay home all day and play soccer. But that’s hard. As the Big brother in between our legs always calls for some attention. And that gets us back on the go again. But Diploma girls make this easy. If you are close to one, you probably know what I mean. While an Average UTME entry UNILAG babe wouldn’t hesitate to “Cock block” you when you try to meet or make moves on her friends, The Diploma chick does the Opposite. If you are cool enough and worthy of her showing off to her friends, That’s what she will do.

7.They Make a lot of Twerk videos: yes twerk videos are a thing of trend now. Both men and boys can’t seem to get enough of it, even the ones that publicly show disgust for it wouldn’t mind a life performance from a hot girl. As it is the a priority for most diploma girls to move with social trends so they can fit in and appeal to their peers. They engage in this new social craze. Some even go as far as downloading Mobile Apps and You tube videos that give tutorials on how to twerk. And during leisure time they practice and make twerking videos. Which will later be leaked to friends on purpose Like some sort of publicity Stunt. Most times this method works well, Making the babe More popular among guys and she automatically becomes the hottest topic of the week.

8.Diploma Girls are compliment Junkies; Its allowed though *Laughs* If they put in so much effort to look good everyday, Thank you is the least we can say.

9.Diploma girls love to try new Things as a result of trying to test the limits of their newly found freedom. And this is why I personally love “emm”.

10.I can’t Tell you. Am allowed to be stingy with this one. *Winks* I hope you enjoying this festive season?

Have a great day.

Breaking news : Fire Out Break at Emerald Hostel

There was a fire outbreak some minutes ago at the Emerald Hostel. This happened after occupants of a particular room went home and left all the appliances in the room on. A high voltage came on when electricity was restored and this caused a spark which generated into the fire.

According to our reporter on the scene, members of the fire brigade from the University responded promptly but the inferno had already consumed the entire room as there was nothing else to salvage.
