WAITING FOR THE END OF MAKAMA MONKEYS

I’m staying in Makama this session, unfortunately for me. Everyone knows Makama is the Ajegunle of Unilag. Aside all the dirtiness, smelliness, rowdiness that comes with Makama, we have our special visitors…… Monkeys.

Makama monkeys are like no other monkeys. They own makama, more than the V.C and Hall Mistress combined. If there is a court case on ownership, it’s will be between the monkeys and rats, with the monkeys winning. One lovely day, it seemed like our problems will be forever solved. Iron nets were used to block outlets, holes were blocked, everything put in order. We were happy. It was like Christmas until………..

I was cooking stew and rice, impatiently waiting for my food to get ready when I heard shouts. When my roommates were asking “What is it?” I said “It’s all these random shouting.” We ignored it until I heard “Monkey!”. The first thing that came to my mind was my food, my dearest lunch. I rushed out, only to see the monkey eating a plate of beans that was formerly close to my dear cooking lunch. My food was the only food cooking in the kitchen. I was scared, heartbroken and sad.

I couldn’t check my food, when I guessed the food was ready, I used escorts to go and pick the food. It was not easy, we kept running back and forth until we took everything in. I honestly don’t want to go through that again. I’m hoping and praying that these monkeys won’t disturb us again. Have you ever had any encounters with monkeys? Tell me, I need to know I’m not alone in this.
